Mobile Women Fall At William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- William Carey University handed the University of Mobile women's basketball team its 3rd-straight loss, 62-54, Saturday evening.

Mobile (12-8, 3-4) hosts Belhaven University Thursday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 pm.

Alice Honnery led Mobile with 15 points, while Alyssa Lane added 13 points and Adrienne Mackay finished with 9 points and 13 rebounds.

Chelsea Combest led a trio of Lady Crusaders in double figures with 15 points, while Shareka Hunt added 13 points.

William Carey out shot Mobile 52% to 43% from the field, while Mobile hit only 9-of-18 from the free throw line, with William Carey hitting 6-of-9 from the charity stripe.

In the opening half, the Lady Rams struck first on Honnery's 3-pointer and led much of the half. William Carey grabbed a 14-11 lead, but the Lady Rams came right back for a 25-19 lead with 9:39 left thanks to a 4-point play from Lane. The home team again grabbed a lead, 27-26, with 4:56 left, but Morgan Melancon answered with a 3-pointer, and back-to-back buckets from Honnery gave Mobile a 33-27 lead. William Carey scored five straight to cut Mobile's lead to 33-32 at the break.

Mobile started the final period by taking a 5-point lead at 37-32, but William Carey answered with a 9-1 run. They took the lead for good with 15:44 left when Shareka Hunt's layup put the Lady Crusaders ahead 39-38. The Lady Rams were within two points at the 12:38 mark, but William Carey pulled away with a 10-2 run to take the game's first double-digit lead. Down the stretch, William Carey led by as many as 15 points.
