Rams Split Sunday Twin Bill

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team split a Sunday twinbill with visiting St. Catharine College, dropping game one 5-4 in 8 innings and taking the finale 5-3 in 7 innings.

Mobile (3-1) will visit Loyola Tuesday, Feb. 8 for a 3 pm double header.

In the finale, Blake Hanson picked up the win by limiting the Patriots to 1 earned run on 7 hits in 4.2 innings of work. Josh Blaylock worked a shutout 7th for his 1st save of the season.

Jeremy Williams and Cody Barber each went 2-3 at the plate, while Ryne Phillips finished 1-3 with 2 RBI.

St. Catharine led 3-1 after the top of the 3rd inning, but the Rams fought back with a 3-spot in the bottom of the 3rd to account for the winning tallies. Williams, Sam Mahoney and Phillips all reached to start the frame, with Phillips providing a RBI-single. An errant throw brought home Mahoney and then Barber cappped the scoring with a RBI-double.

In Sunday's opener, St. Catharine handed Mobile its first loss of the season, 5-4 in 8 innings. Brad Krohman picked up the win in relief after allowing 3 runs on 2 hits in 2 innings, while Jeff Lyons was tagged with the loss after allowing 1 earned run in .1 innings of relief.

Michael King got the start for Mobile and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5.1 innings, while walking none.

Jeremy Williams led the way at the plate with a 2-4 performance, while Sam Mahoney went 1-2 and drew a pair of walks. For St. Catharine, Juan Moriel finished 1-2 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

The Rams struck first with a Ryan Waltman RBI-single in the 1st and King breezed through 5 innings of 1-hit ball before running into trouble in the 6th. In that inning, the Patriots tallied 3 runs on 4 hits to take the 3-1 lead.

With the game scheduled for 7 innings, Mobile came to bat in the bottom of the 7th down two and tied it up 3-3, thanks to a leadoff walk, a wild pitch and Brady King's suicide squeeze bunt to score Josh Blaylock.
