UMobile Women's Tennis Opens With Win

MARION, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team opened the 2011 season with a 7-2 road victory over Judson College Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Rams (1-0) next play Saturday, Feb. 19 at LSU-Shreveport at 10 am.

Mobile opened with a 2-1 edge in doubles play as Claudia Borges-Cynthia Summersgill won 8-2 and Treya Smith-Samantha Parrott picked up an 8-0 victory. The duo of Kari Williams and Tracy Cullum fell 2-8 in their match at No. 2 doubles.

Singles play saw the Lady Rams take five of six matches to pick up the victory. In three of the victories, Mobile dropped only two combined games. Borges cruised 6-0, 6-0; Williams won 6-2, 6-4 and Smith rolled 6-1, 6-0 in the top three spots. Cullum fell 1-6, 4-6; Parrott won 6-1, 6-0 and Summersgill picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
