Jackson's Triple-Double Sinks Mobile Women In SSAC Play

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 52-77 to Belhaven University in SSAC West action Thursday evening at Pharr Gym.

The Lady Rams (12-9, 3-5) will visit Auburn University-Montgomery Saturday at 2 pm. Belhaven improves to 19-6 and 7-1 and sits in the top spot in the division.

Adrienne Mackay was Mobile's lone double-digit scorer with 11 points and 9 rebounds off the bench, while Alice Honnery finished with 12 boards. Anna Maddox tallied 8 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

The star performer of the night was Belhaven's Regena Jackson who put up 20 points, 10 assists, 10 rebounds and 7 boards. Kiara Johnson finished with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Portia Tucker added 15 points and 8 boards on 7-of-12 shooting.

Belhaven out shot Mobile 46% to 37% from the floor and turned the ball over only 10 times, compared to 22 Mobile giveaways. Neither team received an advantage from the charity stripe or 3-point line, as they combined for only 9 made 3's and 12 free throws.

The teams opened the game by trading leads until Mobile used a 12-4 run to grab a 20-14 lead with 9:58 left on Morgan Melancon's 3-pointer. The Lady Rams held that lead until Jackson hit a free throw with 3:07 left to put the Lady Blazers up 25-24. Mobile answered right back to take a 26-25 lead, but a Sarah Carr 3-pointer sparked a 7-0 spurt for the Lady Blazers to close out the half and take a 32-26 lead.

The final half was all Belhaven, as they opened by scoring 11 of the first 13 points to take a 15-point lead. They led by as many as 27 points the rest of the way and never led by less than 10.
