MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team lost a 66-67 overtime decision at Faulkner Thursday in SSAC West action.
Mobile (14-13, 7-4) remains in a tie for 1st in the SSAC West with William Carey as the Crusaders also lost. Mobile closes out the regular season Saturday at 6 pm by hosting Loyola.
Ji Kimbrough led Mobile with 19 points, Donte Walker added 16 and Matthew Turner finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Chris Palmore led Faulkner with 22 points on 10-of-20 shooting.
Faulkner out shot Mobile 48% to 41% from the field and 41% (7-17) to 33% (4-12) from the 3-point line. Mobile went 67% (14-21) from the free throw line, compared to 60% (12-20) from Faulkner.
Mobile built a 31-20 lead after the opening 20 minutes thanks to holding Faulkner to 7-of-23 from the floor, but the Eagles rallied to hit 63% (17-27) in the 2nd half and OT.
The teams traded leads early in the opening half and Faulkner grabbed a 12-11 advantage with 14:40 left. Mobile answered with an 18-6 run to grab a 29-18 lead with 2:32 left, as Christian Salinas capped the run with five points in the final 12 seconds.
The Rams continued to roll through the early minutes of the second half, as a Ji Kimbrough bucket gave the Rams a 12-point lead (39-27) with 16:16 remaining. From there, the Eagles woke up and went on a 19-7 run over the next 8:55 to knot it at 46-46. Chris Palmore tallied 7 points in the run. Walker and Turner answered the tie with back-to-back buckets and Mobile retook the lead until Faulkner grabbed its first lead of the half at 55-54 on a 3-pointer from Duke Phillips with 2:11 left. Kimbrough tied it up for Mobile with 1:49 remaining at 58-58 and they headed to extra time with that same score.
Palmore scored the first four points of OT, but a Kimbrough 3-pointer with 1:24 left tied it up at 65-65. Palmore answered with a bucket 18 seconds later and the Rams could not counter.
