
ROME, Ga-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team will open up play at the 2011 Fuddruckers Southern States Athletic Conference Basketball Championships presented by Floyd County Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 2 pm versus Southern Wesleyan.
The Lady Rams (16-10, 6-6) are the 5th seed from the West, while Southern Wesleyan (20-9, 11-5) is the 4th seed from the East. The winner will battle the West's top seed, Belhaven at 7 pm on Thursday. Both games will be played at the Darlington School. The winner of the tournament will secure an automatic bid to the 2011 NAIA Women's Basketball National Championships.
Mobile enters postseason play sporting a 4-1 record in the last five contests after losing 4-straight. The Lady Rams are 4-8 in games away from Pharr Gym this season and sport an 11-4 record in games decided by single digits. When Mobile allows its opponents to score over 70 points, they are 3-7.
Post players lead the way for Mobile, as Adrienne Mackay averages 13.2 points per game and 8.7 boards per contest, while Alice Honnery averages 11.7 points, 10.7 boards and 4.2 blocks per game. She ranks 2nd in the NAIA in blocks per contest. Alyssa Lane is on the cusp of double figures, averaging 9.7 points per contest. The Lady Rams shoot 44% from the floor, 33% from 3-point range and 58% from the charity stripe.
The Southern Wesleyan Lady Warriors are from South Carolina and have gone 6-2 over their last 8 contests, including a current 2-game winning streak. They are 11-6 in road/neutral contests and 9-0 in games decided by single digits. SWU spreads the wealth offensively, with four players averaging double figures on the offensive end.
Janaye Gillard puts up 13.9 points and 6.5 boards per game, while Amber Ryals averages 12.4 points and 7.1 rebounds. Natasha Eddings averages 12.2 boards per contest. As a team, the Lady Warriors shoot 39% from the field, 31% from 3-point range and 61% from the free throw line. When allowing 70+ points, they are 3-7 on the year.
