MOBILE, Ala-- One game after picking up the program's historic 700th win, the University of Mobile baseball team fell 4-8 to the rival Spring Hill College Badgers on the back end of Friday's SSAC West doubleheader.
Chris Peacock (2-1) took the loss for Mobile after surrendering 7 runs on 7 hits in 1.2 innings of work. Corey Fountain kept the Rams in the game with 7.1 innings of 3-hit, 1-run ball, but they could not rally.
Joe Carter (3-2) picked up the win for Spring Hill after scattering 7 hits over 5 innings of 2-run ball.
Ryan Waltman paced Mobile at the plate with a 3-4 effort, while Cody Barber and Josh Blaylock each hit 2-run homers for the Rams. Jeremy Williams added a pair of hits from the 3-hole in the Mobile lineup.
Chris Foglia, Ryan Cummings and Ben Nicastri each finished with a pair of hits for the Badgers, while Kendell Carvin drove in a pair and Brad Holstein homered.
It was all about the 2nd inning for the Badgers as they broke open the game with 7 runs on 6 hits and sent 11 batters to the dish. The barrage started with a 1-out walk, as the next six hitters all reached safely. A bases loaded walk started the scoring and Carvin capped the scoring with a 2-run single in his second trip to the plate.
Barber hit his 2-run bomb in the 2nd after a walk to Sam Mahoney and Blaylock launched his following a Waltman triple in the 8th.
Mobile (13-6, 1-1) will host the Badgers Saturday at 2 pm to cap the 3-game series.
