MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team defeated Spring Hill College 3-0 in SSAC West action Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Rams took 2-of-3 in the series.
Mobile (14-6, 2-1) hosts Lyon College for a 2pm non-conference contest Tuesday, Mar. 8.
Jacob Knowles (4-1) picked up the win for the Rams by limiting the Badgers to 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 shutout innings. The freshman fanned 3. Josh Blaylock worked a scoreless 9th for the save. He threw 1-2-3 innings in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th innings.
Spring Hill's Stephen Herrington took the loss despite allowing only 2 earned runs on 7 hits in a complete-game effort on only 95 pitches.
At the plate, Cody Barber led the Rams with a 2-4 performance, while scoring twice. Keith Granger finished 1-3 with 2 runs and Brady King went 1-2 with 1 RBI.
The Rams scored first in the 2nd inning on a RBI-groundout from Granger after a Badger error moved Brady King from 1st to 3rd. As Knowles continued to keep Spring Hill off the board, the Rams added another run in the 4th thanks to back-to-back doubles from Barber and King. Granger added a 2-out, RBI-single in the 6th to cap the scoring.
The Badgers threatened in the 9th with a leadoff double and a 2-out walk, but Blaylock fanned Ben Nicastri to end the game.
