Rams Knock Off 2nd-Ranked Lee 10-7

CLEVELAND, Tenn-- The University of Mobile baseball team knocked off 2nd-ranked Lee University 10-7 in NAIA road action Friday evening.

Mobile (17-6) and Lee (18-6) will finish the 3-game series with a noon doubleheader Saturday.

Michael King (4-1) turned in a valiant effort on the mound to pick up the victory. King threw 128 pitches while working 8.2 innings. He struck out 8 and allowed 7 runs on 10 hits, though he had limited the Flames to 3 runs through 8 innings before being victimized by Travis Anderson's 3-run home run in the bottom of the 9th. That homer chased King and then John Ladnier came on and threw only 2 pitches to finish out the game.

At the plate, the Rams pounded out 12 hits and capitalized on 6 Flame errors to put 10 runs on the board. Ben Negus finished 2-5 with 2 runs scored, Cameron White went 2-5 with 1 RBI and Jeremy Williams finished 2-4 with 3 runs and 2 RBI. Sam Mahoney finished 2-4 from the DH spot, Cody Barber drove in a pair, and Brady King and Keith Granger each added a pair of hits and 1 RBI.

Michael Brown went 3-5 with 3 runs, 2 RBI and 1 homer for Lee.

The Rams took control of the game early with 2 runs in the 1st and a 4-spot in the 3rd inning to go ahead 6-1. Williams doubled home one to start the scoring in the 1st and then Mobile sent 9 hitters to the plate in the 3rd. White and Williams started the 3rd with singles and King and Granger produced 2-out, RBI-singles to cap the inning.

The eventual winning run for the Rams came in the form of a single tally in the 5th when Josh Blaylock reached via error and later came around to score on another Lee error.

King continued to cruise, only allowing single tallies in the 1st, 4th and 7th before tiring in the 9th.
