
MOBILE, Ala-- The 10th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept SSAC West foe Faulkner University by scores of 8-3 and 9-5 Monday to improve to 30-8 overall and 10-2 in the conference.
Mobile will host 20th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery for a conference doubleheader Wednesday, Apr. 13 at 4 pm.
Heather Smith staked Faulkner to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd in the opener with a 3-run home run, but the Lady Rams used a 6-run 4th to bounce back. Victoria Buie picked up the victory by fanning 10 Lady Eagle batters in the complete game effort. All runs were unearned and she allowed only 5 hits.
Mayles Rodriguez finished 3-3 with 3 runs scored and a 3-run homer for Mobile, while Kirstyn Joiner went 2-3 and Milagros Lozada was 2-3 with 3 RBI.
Mobile sent 10 batters to the plate in that 4th inning and loaded the bases with 1 out on an error, walk and hit-batsman. A wild pitch plated the first run and then Rodriguez followed with her 3-run blast to left for the 5-3 lead. Lozada and Bracey added 2-out, run-scoring hits in the frame.
In game two, Mobile again trailed early, 2-0 after 1.5 innings, but bounced back with a 4-run 2nd and 3-run 4th. Kamaron Strickland went the distance for the win, scattering 10 hits and allowing 4 earned runs while striking out 3.
Rodriguez went 2-4 with 2 runs scored, Bracey drove in a pair, Lozada finished 2-4 with a 3-run home run, Ally Scott was 2-2 and Hannah Beth Baker finished 3-3 with 2 RBI at the plate for Mobile.
Down 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, the Lady Rams went to work, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits. Baker started the scoring with a RBI-single to center, Holli McLeod drew a bases-loaded walk and Bracey looped a 2-run single to right field.
Mobile then put the game away in the 4th when Lozada hit a 2-out, 3-run home run to left field. It was her 8th homer of the season.
