No. 7 Lady Rams Split With No. 12 Belhaven

MOBILE, Ala-- The 7th-ranked University of Mobile softball team earned a split with 12th-ranked Belhaven University Saturday by taking the finale 2-1 after falling 4-0 in the SSAC West opener.

Mobile (31-11, 11-5) will host rival Spring Hill College Tuesday, Apr. 19 at 4 pm for a twin bill.

Kamaron Strickland went the distance in the finale to earn the win. She limited Belhaven to 1 run on 7 hits, while walking only 1. Sarah Burns took the loss after giving up 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings. She fanned 8.

Holli McLeod and Hannah Beth Baker were the only two Lady Rams with multiple hits in the game, each going 2-3, and they teamed up for the winning run in the 7th.

With the game knotted 1-1, Baker opened the 7th with a single up the middle and moved to 2nd on a sac bunt from Mayles Rodriguez. McLeod followed with the game-winning double to right-center that just-eluded the glove of Kayla Maldonado. Baker, who had to hold and see if it would be caught, slid in at home beneath the tag of catcher Chelsea Randle.

Sarah Burns handcuffed the Lady Rams' offense in the opener, allowing only 5 hits and striking out 8 in the complete-game shutout victory. Victoria Buie took the loss after giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits in 7 innings while striking out 8.

Christina Jaques, Annalee Carr and Rebecca Rousseau each had two hits for Belhaven, who used the long ball for the bulk of their offense.

Rousseau swatted a solo homer in the 2nd and Carr hit a solo shot in the 4th.
