MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team closed out its season by dropping both ends of a conference twin bill to No. 19 Faulkner by 3-2 and 13-4 margins Saturday.
Mobile (29-23, 5-13) finishes the season two games behind William Carey for the final SSAC Tournament spot out of the SSAC West Division.
In the opener, Faulkner's Jacob Simmons out-dueled Josh Blaylock for the 3-2 victory. Simmons limited Mobile to 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 2 in 6 innings. Blaylock worked all 6 innings for Mobile and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out three.
Ryne Phillips went 3-3 at the dish to lead the Rams, while Cameron White finished 1-3 with 1 RBI. Michael Clayton went 3-3 with a home run for Faulkner, while Jonathan Gober added a 3-3 performance.
Faulkner jumped ahead with a 2-run 1st, but Mobile tied the game with single tallies in the 2nd and 3rd frames, before the Eagles took the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the 6th.
The Eagles used an 11-run 8th inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit and beat Mobile in the final game. Colby Broussard picked up the win with 1.1 innings of spotless relief, in which he k'd 4. Blake Hanson took the loss after giving up 5 runs on 10 hits in 7.1 innings of action.
Ryne Phillips went 3-4 at the plate with a homer for the Rams, while Jeremy Williams added a solo shot of his own. Jonathan Gober finished 3-5 with 3 RBI, 3 runs and a home run for a Faulkner offense that pounded out 17 hits.
