
COLUMBUS, Ga-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team continued to perform with their backs against the wall Friday, winning two more elimination games at the 2011 SSAC Tournament.
Mobile (34-16) defeated Faulkner University 7-6 and stomped Auburn University-Montgomery 10-4 in the final game of the day.
Faulkner built a 6-1 lead after 5 innings of play, but the 18th-ranked Lady Rams tallied 2 runs in the 6th and 4 in the 7th to rally for the win.
The 2 runs in the 6th came on Lozada's 2-run shot, and in the 7th an error and hit-batsman after an early out set the stage for the rally. Holli McLeod started the scoring with a RBI-single, while Kirstyn Joiner capped the inning with a 2-run single to center after Lozada's bases-loaded walk extended the inning.
Milagros Lozada finished 2-3 with 3 RBI and a home run, Kirstyn Joiner went 2-3 with 2 RBI and Ally Scott was a perfect 3-3 at the dish for Mobile. Kamaron Strickland grabbed the win by scattering 8 hits in 6 innings of work and allowing 3 earned runs.
Strickland picked up her 3rd win of the day against AUM, by limiting the Lady Senators to 1 earned run on 5 hits in 5 innings of work.
At the plate, Lozada continued to mash, finishing 2-2 with 6 RBI and a homer, Jessica Rogers scored 3 runs and drove in a pair and Nicole Walker finished 1-2 with 2 RBI.
Mobile opened the scoring with 2 runs in the 1st inning on only 1 hit, as Lozada doubled home a pair. But, AUM answered to take a 4-2 lead after 4.5 innings of play, before the Mobile bats put the game away with 3 runs in the 5th and 5 in the 6th.
Walker singled home a pair in the 5th and Lozada drilled a 3-run homer to center field on an 0-2 pitch in the 6th inning.
The Lady Rams will face Shorter University Saturday at 10 am.
