KANSAS CITY, Mo—The NAIA released the bracket for the 2011 NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship Tuesday, and the University of Mobile will face Vanguard University out of California in the opening round.
The 31st annual event will take place May 17-21 at the Mobile Tennis Center. Opening round matches will start at 9 am for the men.
The top eight seeds in the field receive first-round byes and will await the winners of round one. Those teams are: Fresno Pacific, Embry-Riddle, Auburn-Montgomery, Oklahoma Christian, Azusa Pacific, Westmont, Point Loma Nazarene and Xavier.
Aside from the Mobile v. Vanguard battle on day one, the other matchups are: St. Thomas v. Aquinas, Huntington v. Graceland, Concordia v. Bethany, Lewis-Clark State v. Lindsey Wilson, Shorter v. Hastings, Brescia v. Union and William Carey v. Olivet Nazarene.
The Vanguard Lions compete in the Golden State Athletic Conference, which have six schools competing at the championship. Vanguard went 7-13 and is ranked No. 9 in the latest NAIA Top-25. Mobile enters with a 6-7 record.
