Trio Of Tennis Players Named Scholar-Athletes

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile had three tennis players named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced.

Jesus Urmeneta was honored on the men’s side, while Rachel Hartley and Nancy Machen were honored from the Lady Rams’ roster.

In order to be nominated by an institution’s head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.

Ninety-six student-athletes were honored on the men’s side, while 126 women were honored for their performance in the classroom.

Fourteen women and 11 men from the SSAC dotted the list.

Urmeneta is a senior from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, Hartley is a senior from Mobile, Ala., and Machen is a senior from Boaz, Ala.
