Badgers Rally Past Rams In Game One

MOBILE, Ala-- The Spring Hill College Badgers scored three runs in the 7th inning on Friday night to rally past the University of Mobile Rams 7-5 at Stan Galle Field.

With the score 5-3 in favor of Mobile, the Badgers used four hits to score three runs and take a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the 7th inning. Consecutive singles to lead off the frame by shortstop Ryan Cummings and left fielder Andy McCall were followed by a successful sacrifice bunt by third baseman Blake Nelson and a 2-run triple to deep center by second baseman Bobby Voss that tied the game. Catcher Fred Rossi then gave the Badgers the lead with a run-scoring single.

Voss was 4-for-4 on the night with two RBIs for Spring Hill while right fielder Ryan Hall, Cummings, McCall, and DH Pat O'Malley all picked up two hits as the Badgers pounded out 16 hits against the Rams (9-14, 3-9 GCAC).

Mobile's Ben Negus and Cody Sanderson each had a hit and two RBIs.

On the mound, Jeff Kennum (2-0) was the winner in relief for SHC with three innings pitched, two hits, a walk and no strikeouts. David Dupuy started for the Badgers and lasted six innings allowing five earned runs in the 5th inning off three hits, two walks, three strikeouts and four hit batters. Dupuy held the Rams hitless through four innings.

For Mobile, John Ladnier was the loser (2-3) with a blown save attempt in one inning of work with four hits, two runs, no walks and no strikeouts. Chris Peacock was the Mobile starter going six innings with 12 hits five runs, 10 strikeouts and a walk. Unusually, the Rams' pitching staff gave up runs off strikeouts with wild pitches on three different occasions that resulted in the batter reaching base and a run scoring from third base.

Mobile and Spring Hill (14-8, 9-4 GCAC) will wrap up this 3-game conference series in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Stan Galle Field.
