MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 2nd-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team started 2011 by defeating Embry-Riddle 2-1 at the AUM Southern States Athletic/Sun Conference Showdown Friday.
2010 1st-Team NAIA All-American Deshorn Brown picked up right where he left off, tallying both Mobile goals to put the Rams in the win column.
The sophomore started the game by scoring on a feed from newcomer Michael Azira and fellow All-American Stephen Okai just 3:45 into the contest.
The score stayed that way for the next 70 minutes until ERAU's Nicklas Peterson tied it up in the 75th minute. But, Brown again had the answer, notching the winning goal four minutes later on an unassisted play.
Mobile's Kyle Buxton played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied one save, while the Eagles' Nils Carlson collected four saves.
Mobile out shot Embry-Riddle 11-5 for the game. Brown put four of five shots on target.
The Rams (1-0) will battle SCAD-Savannah Saturday at 1 pm to finish out play at the tournament.
