GULF SHORES, Ala-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team went 1-1 in Gold Bracket play to end the Gulf Coast Invitational Sunday. Mobile downed Martin Methodist 6-2 and fell 4-1 to St. Gregory's.
The Lady Rams opened up Gold Bracket play by knocking of Martin Methodist 6-2.
The offense pounded out 12 hits and Leslie Pickette went the distance to pick up the win, allowing two unearned runs on 4 hits, while fanning two.
Desiree Truett finished 2-4 with 2 RBI, Erica Bracey was 2-3, Jessica Swanson and Ally Scott both finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored and Nicole Walker was 1-2 with 2 RBI.
Martin Methodist struck first with an unearned tally in the 2nd to go ahead 1-0, but Mobile bounced back with a 4-run 4th inning. The first four hitters collected hits in the frame, with Walker starting the scoring with a 2-run single. Hannah Harrell's bunt single and an error plated Walker, and two batters later, Truett doubled home Harrell for the 4-1 lead.
Infield RBI-singles from Truett and Kirstyn Joiner finished the scoring for Mobile in the 5th inning.
Against St. Gregory's the Lady Rams struck first on Desiree Truett's solo homerun in the bottom of the 1st, but the team could not add to the lead.
Then, in the 4th, Jessica Reed blasted a 3-run homer for St. Gregory's to take the lead for good. Mobile wasted opportunities late, wasting a leadoff single in the 5th and back-to-back leadoff singles in the 6th.
Sarah Bradley got the win for St. Gregory's with 7 innings of 1-run ball. She fanned 9 and walked none.
Kamaron Strickland got the loss for Mobile after giving up 2 earned runs in 3 innings of work. Victoria Buie worked 4 innings in relief, striking out 6 and allowing an unearned tally.
Mobile (17-8) hosts Grand View Tuesday, March 16 for a 3 pm doubleheader.
