Third Round Of Nationals Done; Rice Tied For 10th

RAPID CITY, S.D.-- The third round of the 2010 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships is in the books and the University of Mobile's Maegan Rice sits in a five-way tie for 10th place with one round left to play Friday, May 28. Rice led after Tuesday's opening round and was tied for 5th entering play today before shooting a 10-over 82. She sits at 17-over 233 (71, 80, 82) for the tournament. Sophie Henke (South Carolina Beaufort), Anna Schopp (Lubbock Christian), Jessica Smith (Lindsey Wilson) and Megan Woodland (Victoria) are also at 17-over through three rounds.

Maegan Rice Sits Two Strokes Back At Nationals

RAPID CITY, S.D.-- The University of Mobile's Maegan Rice sits two strokes back in a tie for 5th place after the second round of the 2010 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships Wednesday. Rice led after round one after firing a 1-under 71, but the senior shot an 8-over 80 to fall to 7-over 151 for the tournament. British Columbia's Alyssa Human and Lubbock Christian's Anna Schopp are tied for 1st with 5-over 149's after finishing at +4 in the second round.

McPherson Dazzles In Hitless Effort (By: Danny Wild)

Kyle McPherson is back to his old habits. McPherson struck out nine and walked one over seven hitless innings for his third win as Class A West Virginia one-hit Lexington, 5-0, on Tuesday afternoon. The Mobile, Ala., native, who struck out 10 in his previous start, has whiffed 48 batters in 48 1/3 innings this season. He's now struck out nine or more in three of his eight starts after never totaling that many in a single start in his previous three seasons.

Maegan Rice Starts Nationals With 1-Under 71

RAPID CITY, S.D.- Maegan Rice carded an opening-round 1-under 71 to take the early lead at the 2010 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships Tuesday. British Columbia's Alyssa Human and Lubbock Christian's Anna Schopp are tied for 2nd with 1-over 73's. The day did not start off great, as the senior from Florence, Ala. bogeyed the opening hole, and then carded a 6 on the par-5 hole No. 5 to put her at 2-over through the front-9.

UM Men's Cross Country Adds One

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's cross country team announced the signing of Guillermo (Emil) Verde Tuesday. He is the son of Emil and Maggie Verde and a native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Emil Verde is transferring in the Fall to the University of Mobile from the College of the Albemarle.

Lady Rams XC Inks Runner

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's cross country program announced the signing of Kristen Jones Monday. Jones is the daughter of Tony and Trish Jones and is the daughter of Suwanee, Ga. Jones began running cross country in 9th grade and posted a personal record of 20:09 in the Westover Invitational in Albany, Georgia. That time won her first place as a freshman in the Junior Varsity race.

Rice Ready To Go At NAIA National Championships

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 16th Annual NAIA Women's Golf National Championships are set to tee off Tuesday at Meadowbrook Golf Course in Rapid City, S.D. Mobile's Maegan Rice is competing as an individual at the event and will tee off in the first round Tuesday at 8:10 am (MDT) on hole No. 1, and then tee off Wednesday at 2:30 pm (MDT) on hole No. 10. The event will be four rounds of stroke play. The 129-player championships field is comprised of 14 automatic qualifying teams from NAIA affiliated conferences/unaffiliated groupings and 10 at-large selections, which are determined using the final Top 25 rating released on May 7.

Tennis Players Named Scholar-Athletes

MOBILE, Ala-- Jesus Urmeneta, Rachel Hartley and Jordin Wiggins were named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, as announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Friday. Hartley, a Mobile native, is a business marketing major, while Wiggins, a Spanish Fort native, is an accounting major.

No. 16 LCSC Slips By No. 21 Mobile 5-4 At Nationals

MOBILE, Ala-- The 21st-ranked University of Mobile women's tennis team fell to 16th-ranked Lewis-Clark College 5-4 on day one of the 2010 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship Tuesday. The Lady Rams finish the season with a 17-6 record, while Lewis-Clark advances to face Fresno Pacific Wednesday at 9 am. This was Mobile's 6th-straight trip to nationals.

Rams Fall To No. 9 Point Loma At Nationals

MOBILE, Ala-- Ninth-ranked Point Loma Nazarene University was too much for the Rams too handle at the 2010 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Tuesday. The Sea Lions defeated the Rams 6-0 in a match that was called early due to weather. The Rams end the season with a 10-6 mark, while Point Loma advances to face Oklahoma Christian Wednesday at 1 pm. This was Mobile's 3rd-straight trip to nationals.
