MOBILE, Ala-- The Texas Rangers made University of Mobile product and Bellwood, Ala. native Jeremy Williams the 1,104th pick of the 2011 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft Wednesday. The Rangers nabbed the 6-2, 220-pound outfielder with the 23rd pick in the 36th round. When Williams signs on the dotted line, he will be the 29th University of Mobile baseball player to ink a pro contract. He is the first draftee since Kyle McPherson was selected in the 14th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2007.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile baseball program has announced the signing of four players for the 2012 season and beyond. The class includes three JUCO products and one prep product. Keith Shirah and Jared Brannon come to Mobile after playing most recently at Faulkner State, Shane Ikner comes from Jefferson Davis CC and Braxton Hamil will begin his college career with the Rams after prepping at Davidson HS.

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile baseball program announced the signing of four Alabama Southern Community College products; Ryan Hines, Parker Hollinghead, Ryan Parazine and John Soutullo. Hines is a 6-2, 215-pound left-handed pitcher played his prep ball at Daphne HS and has spend the last two seasons at Alabama Southern. In his latest start, the lefty struck out 13 hitters in 7.2 innings at the ACCC Baseball Tournament and he sits at 8-2 on the season with a 2.44 ERA and 77 K’s in 77.1 innings of work.

The University of Mobile has named its baseball field “Mike Jacobs Field” in honor of head baseball coach Mike Jacobs who founded the school’s baseball program in 1990 and celebrated his 700th career win in March. University of Mobile President Dr. Mark Foley congratulated Jacobs and his wife, Joy, “on a career at the University of Mobile which is unparalleled.” Jacobs was surprised by the honor, which was unanimously approved by the Christian university’s Board of Trustees in April.

COLUMBUS, Ga-- Several University of Mobile baseball players were honored with the release of the 2011 Southern States Athletic Conference awards Sunday. Jeremy Williams and Sam Mahoney were named to the All-Conference Team, Justin Beck was the team's Musco Lighting Champions of Character honoree, and John Irwin, Brady King and Hunter Norris were all named to the All-Academic Team.

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team closed out its season by dropping both ends of a conference twin bill to No. 19 Faulkner by 3-2 and 13-4 margins Saturday. Mobile (29-23, 5-13) finishes the season two games behind William Carey for the final SSAC Tournament spot out of the SSAC West Division. In the opener, Faulkner's Jacob Simmons out-dueled Josh Blaylock for the 3-2 victory. Simmons limited Mobile to 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 2 in 6 innings. Blaylock worked all 6 innings for Mobile and allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out three.

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team fell 9-2 to 19th-ranked Faulkner University Friday evening. Mobile (29-21, 5-11) will battle Faulkner (40-10, 12-4) in a 1 pm doubleheader Saturday to close out the regular season. The Rams will enter the final day of the season one game behind William Carey for the final SSAC Tournament spot out of the West Division. William Carey (25-22, 6-10) will play a pair of games against Belhaven, after losing to the Blazers by a 3-2 score Friday.

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept LSU-Alexandria in a pair of non-conference games Wednesday. Mobile won the opener 12-2 in a run-rule, 5-inning game and took the finale 6-1 in 7 innings. Mobile (29-20, 5-10) visits Faulkner University to close out the regular season with a 3-game series this weekend, starting with a 5 pm game Friday. In the opener, the Rams tallied 12 runs on 10 hits, scoring multiple runs in every inning but the 2nd. Jeremy Williams finished 3-4 with 3 runs and 6 RBI.

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped both ends of a SSAC West twin bill to No. 15 Auburn-Montgomery Saturday by scores of 3-1 (7) and 7-3. Mobile (27-20, 5-10) will host LSU-Alexandria in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 1 pm. Josh Blaylock was the tough-luck loser in the opener after giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits in 7 innings of action. He struck out 6 and walked none. Wes Cook picked up the win for AUM by limiting Mobile to 1 run on 5 hits in a complete-game effort. He struck out 6 and walked 1.

MOBILE, Ala-- The 15th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery Senators scored early and late to take down the University of Mobile baseball team 11-5 in SSAC West action Friday. Jeremy Williams went 3-5 at the plate to pace Mobile, while Ryan Waltman finished 2-4 with 2 RBI and Ryne Phillips and Brady King each added 2 hits for Mobile. Sam Mahoney plated a pair. Rusty Todd went 4-5 at the top of the AUM lineup, while six other Senators tallied two hits. Logan Remson was 2-4 with 3 RBI.
