Mobile Men Fall By 4 At NCAA Div-I Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team started the 2011-12 season with a 69-73 exhibition loss at NCAA Div-I Nicholls State late Thursday evening. Nicholls out-shot Mobile 47% to 41% from the field and hit 7-of-19 3-pointers, compared to 3-of-14 for Mobile. Both teams hit 18 free throws in the contest, and turnovers offered no advantage either way. The Rams did control the boards, with a 46-32 advantage on the glass and a 13-6 advantage in offensive boards. Newcomer Antonio Hester grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds and added 12 points for the double-double.

Rams Picked 1st In Division In SSAC Men's Basketball Poll

Norcross, Ga. – The 2011-12 Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll has Shorter University as the favorite to win the East Division and the league championship while the University of Mobile was picked to win the West Division, the conference announced Tuesday.

Rams Sign Springfield Prep Product

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team announced the signing of Springfield, LA product Cody Scott Thursday. Scott, a forward from Springfield HS, averaged 24 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks as a senior playing for Coach John Chewning. He was a 2-time All-District honoree, Livingston Parish MVP, 1st-Team All-Parish and Honorable Mention All-State.

Rams Ink Dekalb County 5A Player Of The Year

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball program announced the signing of Dekalb County 5A Player of the Year Jonathan Tinch for the 2011-12 season. The guard from Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Ga. averaged 20.3 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals per game. "He is known for his high intensity and agressive play, and at times can be a prolific scorer, going over 30 points several times and reaching the 40-point mark," Mobile Head Coach Joe Niland said.

Donte Walker Named 2011 NAIA All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo-- The University of Mobile's Donte Walker was named Honorable Mention NAIA Men's Basketball All-American Wednesday, as selected by the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Association All-America Committee. The selections include a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team. In 2010-11, Walker averaged 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game. The senior guard from Lake Charles, LA had season highs of 24 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals.

UMobile Men's Basketball Players Earn Conference Honors

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team had five players honored by the Southern States Athletic Conference for their performance on and off the court in 2010-11. Senior guard Donte Walker was named to the All-Conference team after leading Mobile with 14.9 points per game, while starting all 29 contests. He also grabbed 5.4 rebounds per game and led the team with 45 steals. He was also named All-Conference in 2009-10 when the Rams competed in the GCAC.

Rams' Season Comes To A Close In Rome

ROME, Ga-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team fell to Southern Polytechnic State University 70-57 in the opening round of the 2011 SSAC Tournament. Mobile ends the season with a 15-14 record. Matthew Turner led Mobile with 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting, Kevin Calloway finished with 14 points and Donte Walker chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds for the Rams. Bentley Hylton added 6 points and 9 boards.

Mobile Men Head To Postseason Play As #2 Seed

ROME, Ga-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team will open its postseason journey Thursday, Mar. 3 at 2 pm against Southern Poly State University. Mobile (15-13, 8-4) is the #2 seed in the West and Co-Divisional Champions, while Southern Poly (21-8, 7-5) is the 3rd seed in the East. The winner will advance to play the winner of Brewton Parker/Loyola v. Lee University. Games will be played at the Forum.

Mobile Men Win SSAC West With 2-OT Victory

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 71-69 double-overtime victory over Loyola University to clinch the SSAC West Saturday. Mobile (15-13, 8-4) will next play at the 2011 SSAC Tournament in Rome, GA. Donte Walker led the Rams with 16 points in his final game at Pharr Gym, Brock Dockery added 13 points and 15 rebounds and Ji Kimbrough tallied 12 points and 5 assists off the bench.
