MOBILE, Ala-- The 3rd-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team upended Shorter University 1-0 in the opening round of the 2011 SSAC Tournament Saturday. Mobile (16-2-1, 11-1) will advance to the semifinals of the tournament Nov. 10 in Gulfport, Miss., against a team to be determined. The Lady Rams' defense allowed Shorter to put only two shots on target, and Lorna Brownlie made saves on both of those to pick up the shutout victory.

MOBILE, Ala-- The 5th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team blasted rival Spring Hill College 4-0 in the opening round of the 2011 SSAC Tournament Saturday. Mobile (16-1-1, 10-1-1) will advance to the semifinals Thursday, Nov. 10 in Gulfport, Miss., with time and opponent to be determined. Mobile took 26 shots in the game, putting eight on target, while the Badgers managed only three shots all game and put none on frame.

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team opened the 2011-12 season with a 73-66 victory over NCAA-II Stillman College Saturday afternoon. Briana Edwards led Mobile with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Alice Honnery added 16 points and 14 rebounds, and Courntey Bayliss finished with 14 points for Mobile thanks to hitting four 3-pointers. Mobile out shot Stillman 41% to 35% and finished 14-of-27 at the free throw line, compared to a 3-for-7 effort at the charity stripe from the visitors.

CLINTON, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's cross country team finished 11th at the 2011 SSAC Championships Saturday morning at Choctaw Trails. Shorter University won the 5K meet with a total time of 1:36:30.65, while the Lady Rams clocked in at 1:56:20.46 as a team. Lee University was second at 1:39:22.02. Joanna Canning was the top individual performer for the Lady Ram runners after placing 44th with a time of 22:00.43, while Katelyn Osborne finished at 22:28.69 to finish 51st.

CLINTON, Miss-- The UMobile men's cross country team placed 10th at the 2011 SSAC Championships Saturday morning at Choctaw Trails. The Rams finished the 8K meet with a total time of 2:42:27.82, while Shorter University won the championship with a time of 2:09:42.66. Emmanuel finished 2nd at 2:15:13.58. Zach Gaines led the Rams with a time of 31:02.28 and placed 59th overall, while Mark Meadows crossed the finish line at 31:22.75 to place 63rd.

THIBODAUX, La-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team started the 2011-12 season with a 69-73 exhibition loss at NCAA Div-I Nicholls State late Thursday evening. Nicholls out-shot Mobile 47% to 41% from the field and hit 7-of-19 3-pointers, compared to 3-of-14 for Mobile. Both teams hit 18 free throws in the contest, and turnovers offered no advantage either way. The Rams did control the boards, with a 46-32 advantage on the glass and a 13-6 advantage in offensive boards. Newcomer Antonio Hester grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds and added 12 points for the double-double.

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team battled 19th-ranked Spring Hill College, but fell 0-3 (22-25, 23-25, 20-25) in a Southern States Athletic Conference battle. Mobile (23-13, 7-7) will host Tougaloo Monday, Nov. 7 in a non-conference game, while Spring Hill improves to 36-0 on the season. Spring Hill out-hit Mobile .300 to .181 and the Lady Rams finished with 11 service errors and 22 attack errors, compared to 7 attack errors and 9 service errors for the Badgers.

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's soccer team will host Shorter University Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5 pm in a SSAC Tournament Opening Round Contest. The Lady Rams also climbed to No. 3 in the latest edition of the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll with 532 points and a 15-2-1 record. Lindsey Wilson tops the polls with 590 points, while fellow SSAC team Lee is 2nd with 573 points. Lee is the top seed in the East, while Mobile is the top seed in the West.

MOBILE, Ala-- The 5th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team will host crosstown rival Spring Hill College Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 pm in a SSAC Tournament Opening Round contest. The Rams (15-1-1) won the SSAC Regular Season Championship and continue to hold strong at No. 5 in the NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll behind Lindsey Wilson, Baker, Hastings and Rio Grande.

Norcross, Ga. – The 2011-12 Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll has Shorter University as the favorite to win the East Division and the league championship while the University of Mobile was picked to win the West Division, the conference announced Tuesday.
