Men's Golf Opens 2012 Slate With 7th Place Finish

FAIRHOPE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's golf team finished in 7th place at the Faulkner State Community College Spring Invitational this week to open play in 2012. The Rams carded a +51 627 (319, 308) at the Par-72, 6920 yard Rock Creek. Meridian CC won the tournament with a 15-over 591 (301, 290), finishing with the best score in each round. SSAC rival Spring Hill College finished three strokes above UMobile with a 48-over 624 (311, 313).

UMobile Women's Tennis Grabs Shutout Victory

MARION, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team hit the road and defeated Judson College 9-0 Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Rams (3-0) host Southern States Athletic Conference foe Emmanuel College Saturday, Feb. 18 at 9 am. Mobile had little trouble in dispatching Judson after starting off by sweeping doubles play, while allowing Judson only two games in the three matches.

Lady Rams Hold On To Beat Lady Privateers 85-83

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team defeated University of New Orleans 85-83 in non-conference road action Monday evening. Mobile (7-18, 4-11) will host rival Spring Hill Saturday at 5 pm, as only three SSAC games remain on the schedule. Alice Honnery led the Lady Rams with 22 points and 11 rebounds, Daphnee Frieson added 16 points and 4 blocks and Leana Tajkov tallied 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting off the bench. Briana Edwards finished with 6 points, 6 assists and 5 boards in relief work.

Lady Rams Win Two Matches To Open 2012 Season

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team picked up a pair of victories to open the 2012 slate of matches. The Lady Rams defeated non-conference foe LSU-Shreveport 6-2 and then disposed of SSAC foe Loyola 7-1 to cap Saturday's action. The LSUS match was split at 1-1 after doubles play, but the Lady Rams swept 2-6 singles matches. Marcela Abrantes won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Ambria Phillips shut out her opponent at No. 3.

UMobile Men's Tennis Opens With 9-0 Win

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile men's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a shutout 9-0 victory over SSAC foe Loyola University Saturday in New Orleans. The Rams breezed through doubles play, taking two matches 8-2, to take a 3-0 advantage. In singles action, Mobile dropped only one set, but Fernando Paiva came back to take No. 1 singles 4-6, 7-5 (10-8), while the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th slots lost only seven games total.

Walks Plague Rams As Tornadoes Sweep DH

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team dropped a pair of 7-inning games to visiting Talladega College Saturday at Jacobs Field, falling 4-8 in the opener and 2-4 in the finale. Mobile (2-3) visits West Florida Feb. 15 at 5 pm. Ryan Hines was tagged with the loss in the opener after allowing 4 runs on 7 walks and 0 hits in 1.1 innings of work. Rams pitchers allowed 9 walks and 6 hits in the game.  At the dish, Cameron White led the Rams with a 2-for-3 day, while Ryne Phillips finished 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Lady Rams Fall To Warhawks 60-73 In Conference Play

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 60-73 to visiting Auburn University at Montgomery in SSAC action Saturday afternoon. Mobile (6-18, 4-11) will visit University of New Orleans Monday, Feb. 13 at 5:30 pm. Alice Honnery was the lone Lady Ram to score in double figures, finishing with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 blocks and 5 assists, while Daphnee Frieson and Briana Edwards each added 9 points.

Men's Basketball Holds Off AUM 69-64

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team defeated visiting Auburn University at Montgomery 69-64 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Saturday. Mobile (12-13, 8-7) will host Tougaloo College Thursday at 7:30 pm. Ji Kimbrough led the Rams with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Cody Scott added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Jonathan Tinch finished with 11 points for Mobile. Marquez Brooks led five Warhawks in double figures with 14 points.

Baseball Takes Series Opener From Tornadoes

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team used some 2-out 7th-inning magic to defeat Talladega College 6-3 in the series-opener Friday. The game was called with one out in the top of the 9th due to rain. Mobile (2-1) hosts the Tornadoes for a noon doubleheader Saturday. Michael King got the win for the Rams with 8 innings of work, allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits, while fanning 5 and walking none. Gabriel Viso took the loss for Talladega after allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Rams Fall By Nine At Belhaven University

JACKSON, Miss-- Despite Antonio Hester's incredible performance, the University of Mobile men's basketball team fell 54-63 at Southern States Athletic Conference foe Belhaven University Thursday evening. Hester tallied 30 points on 14-of-15 shooting, added 18 rebounds, and finished with 6 blocks, while the next highest point total was 8 from Brock Dockery. Arnold Daryl led Belhaven with 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the charity stripe.
