MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-9) victory over visiting Tougaloo College to give Head Coach Jon Campbell his 300th career victory Monday.
Campbell boasts a 300-157 career mark and a 173-74 record in seven seasons with the Lady Rams. He started the UMobile volleyball program in 2005, and just one year later led the team to a 31-7 record. Then, over the next three seasons, Mobile compiled 96 wins, three conference championships and three trips to the NAIA National Championships.
At UMobile, he is a four-time GCAC Coach of the Year honoree, has coached 26 all-conference selections, seven all-region selections, eight Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes and six NAIA All-Americans.
In the match, the Lady Rams out hit the Lady Bulldogs .367 to .045 and had a 13-0 advantage in service aces.
Sara Van Wert led the team with 11 kills and hit. 600, while Disah Kolassiba finished with 10 kills. Melody Tenney added 7 kills, 22 assists and 5 service aces, while Katy McCollister led the defense with 21 digs.
Tied 5-5 in the first set, the Lady Rams took the six points, and then used another 5-0 run to push it to 17-7 and take control. The Lady Rams were clinging to a 14-11 victory in the second set before closing it out with an 11-1 run, with Alison Kenney contributing four kills.
The final set was all Mobile, as the Lady Rams started otu with an 11-3 lead and cruised from there.
Mobile (24-13) will be the No. 3 seed out of the West in the SSAC Tournament Nov. 11-12 in Biloxi, Miss. They will start the tournament against Shorter University Friday at 3:30 pm.
Campbell’s coaching career began with a two-year stint at North Greenville College 1999-00, and then he took the reins of the Cumberland College program 2001-04. While at Cumberland, Campbell was named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year and compiled a 106-48 record.
In his 13 seasons, Campbell has compiled four seasons of 30-plus wins and five seasons of 20-plus victories.
