UMobile's Volleyball Season Comes To An End In Quarterfinals

BILOXI, Miss-- The University of Mobile volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the SSAC Tournament Friday in the form of a 1-3 (25-22, 15-25, 22-25, 17-25) loss to Shorter University.

Mobile finishes the season with a 24-14 overall record and a 7-7 mark in SSAC play.

Disah Kolassiba led the Lady Rams with 14 kills, while Alison Kenney added 10 kills and 11 digs. Kiara Gay finished with 9 kills, 3 blocks and 13 digs for the Lady Rams.

Katy McCollister led the way defensively with 19 digs, while Melody Tenney led with 33 assists.

Shorter out-hit Mobile .284 to .201 as a team, led by 17 kills and a .356 attack percentage from Tori Bradley.

The teams traded points for much of the opening set until the Lady Rams found themselves down 20-19 after a Bradley kill. From there, Mobile answered with a 5-2 run, tying it on a Sara Van Wert kill and ending it with a Kolassiba kill.

Mobile's lone lead in the second set was a 1-0 advantage before the Hawks controlled the rest of the set to make it 1-1 in the match.

In the 3rd set, the Hawks led all the way until a late Mobile rally. With Shorter up 20-16, Mobile used a 6-1 run to take their first lead of the set on back-to-back Shorter errors. But, Shorter answered by taking the next four points, with three Bradley kills accounting for three of the final four points.

The final set was Mobile's chance to score first, taking the first three points and leading until Shorter used a 7-1 run to take an 11-10 lead, helped along by four Mobile errors. The teams traded points to a 13-13 tie and the Hawks then grabbed control of the set and the match with a 6-0 run.
