HENDERSON, Tenn-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 52-68 at Freed-Hardeman Saturday afternoon.
Mobile (1-1) will visit University of West Florida Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 5 pm.
Lauren Bethly led Mobile with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, while Alice Honnery added 11 points and 12 boards for Mobile. With six and seven points respectively, Allison Michael and Courtney Bayliss were the only other Lady Rams to score more than three points in the contest.
Mobile shot 36% from the floor and hit only 4-of-21 from 3-point range and 6-of-10 from the charity stripe. Freed hit 32% overall, shot 9-of-23 from the 3-point line and hit 13-of-22 from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions also held a 57-39 edge on the glass, led by 25 rebounds and 14 points from Maria Bagwell. Sixteen of those boards were offensive rebounds. Layce Colter went 5-of-10 from 3-point range to score 16 points for Freed-Hardeman.
Mobile actually scored the first four points of the game as Freed-Hardeman missed their first seven shots, and Mobile led until the Lions took an 8-7 lead. Then, holding a 22-20 advantage on a 3-ball from Bethly, Mobile saw the Lady Lions go on a quick 7-0 spurt, capped by a bucket from Ashley Tate. Mobile never led from there.
The Lady Rams did manage to tie it up 32-32 early in the second half, but Freed-Hardeman again answered with a run, this time a 13-3 run to take a 45-35 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers from Natalie Shumpert and Layce Colter.
