MOBILE, Ala-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team fell 2-1 in 10 innings to Reinhardt College Saturday on day two of the UM Classic.
Reinhardt pulled starter Alex Riccardi after just 2 innings of work, after she he had allowed one run on four hits. The move proved to be a wise decision as reliever Maddie Monroe came in to get the win with 8 innings of 1-hit, shutout relief while striking out 10.
Victoria Buie was the tough-luck loser for Mobile after allowing an unearned run in 3.2 innings of 1-hit relief. Leslie Pickette started and worked 6.1 innings of 2-hit, 1-run ball, while striking out 4.
She had 4 no-hit innings going before the Reinhardt bats started to get a feel for things. After stranding a runner at 3rd in the 5th and 6th innings, the Lady Eagles got some good fortune to knot the game in the 7th. With one out, Haley William's fly ball was lost in the sun and landed for a double, and one batter later Kelsey Floyd singled her home.
The Lady Rams had a chance to win it in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded and one out, but a pair of strikeouts ended the threat. Then, in the 10th, Sarah Brown singled home Floyd for the winner.
Mobile (11-6) hosts Martin Methodist Sunday at 5 pm on the final day of the UM Classic.
