Mobile Men Fall Despite Shooting 54% For The Game

MOBILE, Ala-- Carver Bible College defeated the University of Mobile 83-79 in men's basketball action Saturday at Pharr Gym.

The Rams (4-6) host Life University Saturday, Dec. 17 at 3 pm.

Mobile lost despite out shooting Carver 54% to 49% from the floor, 47% to 40% from 3-point range and making four more free throws. Carver had the better percentage from the charity stripe at 87%, compared to Mobile's 57% effort. Mobile turned the ball over 22 times, while Carver had 18 turnovers, but the Cougars finished with a 17-5 edge in steals.

Christian Salinas led the Rams with 20 points while going 6-of-6 from the 3-point line, while Antonio Hester added 15 points and 11 boards and Cody Scott poured in 13 points off the bench.

Joshua Brown led four Cougars in double figures with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the floor.

The first half saw the Rams jump out to an early 7-0 lead and then grab a 45-37 lead with 2:03 left. Carver was able to cut that deficit to three as the Rams entered the break with a 46-43 lead.

Mobile found themselves ahead 68-62 with 10 minutes left to play in the final half thanks to a 3-pointer from Salinas and a bucket from Marcus Polnett, but the Cougars scored the next five points to trim it to one point and then took a 73-72 lead with 6 minutes to play after three Mobile turnovers and four straight misses from the floor.

From there, the teams traded baskets until Mobile led 76-75 with just-over 3 minutes to play on a Ji Kimbrough bucket. Mobile pushed the lead to three points, before the Cougars got an offensive putback and then a deuce from Brown to tie it at 79-79 with 1:32 to play. The rest of the way Mobile missed both shots and Carver got buckets from Brown and Bernard Parks to win it, with Brown putting them ahead 81-79 with 2.7 seconds left on a jumper.
