Lady Rams Go 2-0 On Opening Day Of UM Classic

 

MOBILE, Ala-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team won a pair of games on day one of the University of Mobile Classic Friday.
 
The Lady Rams beat Lindsey Wilson 1-0 in 8 innings in the opener and then run-ruled Cumberland University 9-0 in 5 innings.
 
Erica Bracey's walk-off RBI-single in the 8th inning gave the Lady Rams the win against Lindsey Wilson.
 
Mobile's Leslie Pickette and Lindsey Wilson's Anyibell Ramierz dueled all game, but it was Pickette that came out victorious by throwing 8 innings of one-hit ball. She fanned 8 and walked only one. Ramirez gave up one earned run in 7+ innings of work on five hits, while walking five and fanning 13.
 
Using international tie breaker rules, each team started the 8th inning with a runner on 2nd base. Lindsey Wilson came up empty in the top of the 8th and the Rams capitalized on their chance.
 
Holli McLeod started on second, Desiree Truett singled to left and Kirstyn Joiner was walked to load the bags for Bracey. The junior responded by ripping the pitch up the middle to end the game.
 
Against Cumberland, Victoria Buie was one pitch away from her second perfect game of the season and the Lady Rams' offense capitalized on six errors to score the 9 runs. Buie struck out 13 in 5 innings and had retired the first 14 Cumberland and had two strikes on Amber Payne, before Payne battled for nine pitches and got a clean single to right.
 
Nicole Walker led the Lady Rams, going 2-3 with 3 RBI, while Kirstyn Joiner finished 1-3 with 2 RBI. Mobile plated three runs in the 2nd thanks to three errors and then put the game away with a six-spot in the 3rd. Joiner had a 2-run single in the 3rd and Walker hit a 2-run double.
