MOBILE, Ala-- The 18th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept 19th-ranked Notre Dame College by scores of 4-0 and 11-1 Thursday and then belted Dillard 14-0 and 13-0 in a pair of run-rule shortened five inning games Thursday.
Mobile (9-5, 2-0) hosts Lindsey Wilson at 3 pm and Cumberland at 7 pm Friday.
Leslie Pickette picked up the win in the opener by limiting the Lady Falcons to three infield hits over 7 shutout innings. She struck out eight and walked none. Erica Bracey led the way with a 2-3 performance at the plate, while Hannah Harrell went 1-3 with a 2-run double.
The game was scoreless for 3.5 innings until the Lady Rams struck for three tallies in the bottom of the 4th. Bracey doubled to start the inning, and three batters later, Ally Scott singled her home to start the scoring. After a walk, Harrell belted her 2-run double to left-center to make it 3-0 Mobile. Jessica Swanson's RBI-triple added another tally in the 5th for Mobile.
The second game saw the Lady Rams pound out 12 hits, while Victoria Buie picked up the win going the full 5 innings, allowing one run on three hits while fanning five.
The Lady Ram offense chased Notre Dame starter Christina Hutchison before she recorded her second out in the game. Holli McLeod went 3-4 with 3 RBI, Desiree Truett finished 2-4, Kirstyn Joiner went 2-3 with 2 RBI and Jessica Swanson finished 1-1 with 2 RBI.
Mobile did its scoring in bunches, with four in the 1st, three in the 2nd and four more in the 4th.
The Lady Rams scored four on four hits in the 1st, with Joiner and Ackerman providing RBI-doubles. In the 2nd, Joiner added another RBI-single, Bracey produced a sac fly and Swanson singled home Joiner. In the 4th, a pair of Notre Dame errors allowed the Lady Rams to put up a 4-spot with only one hit in the inning. McLeod had the big blow with a 3-run double.
The Lady Rams swept visiting GCAC foe Dillard by scores of 14-0 and 13-0 in a pair of 5 innings games due to the run-rule.
Kamaron Strickland threw a no-hitter in the opener versus Dillard, walking one and fanning 12 in 5 innings of work. At the plate, Strickland went 3-4 with 2 runs scored, Desiree Truett finished 2-4 and Joiner and Ally Scott both finished with 3 RBI. After failing to score in the first two innings, Mobile plated 6 in the 3rd and 8 in the 4th.
In the 3rd, Mobile sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored 6 times on three hits. The first seven hitters reached in the inning.
In the 13-0 finale, Christie Soulis got the win, striking out 6 and allowing only two hits in 5 innings of action. Holli McLeod and Desiree Truett both finished with 2 hits, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored, while Tess Ackerman finished 3-3 with 3 RBI and Ally Scott added a 2-3 performance. Mobile scored all 13 runs over the first three innings, including a 7-run 3rd.
Ackerman started the scoring with a 2-out, 2-run single in the 1st inning and after putting up four in the 2nd, Mobile scored 7 more with 7 hits in the 3rd. Mobile belted five doubles in the frame, with McLeod doubling home a pair and Ally Scott producing a 2-run single.
