HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Players of the Week for the week ending Feb. 28, and the University of Mobile had a couple of athletes honored.
Leslie Pickette was named Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Ricky Weghorst was named Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Pickette made three appearances on the week, including two starts. In her first start, she twirled a 6-inning no-hitter against Union College (Ky.). She struck out 10 and walked only 1. In the senior's next start, she pitched Mobile to a 5-3 victory over No. 7 Bethel College (Ind.). She went the distance, struck out 8 and allowed only 3 unearned runs on 3 hits.
Weghorst and the Rams went 2-0 on the week, blasting rival Spring Hill and defeating NCAA II Stillman College. In the 8-1 win over Spring Hill, Weghorst teamed up with Guilherme Lorencon for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, and then picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. The senior then suffered a 6-8 setback at No. 1 doubles against Stillman, but rebounded with a nice 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles.
