First-Half Surge Sends Lady Rams Past AUM

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team defeated Auburn University-Montgomery 72-54 in Southern States Athletic Conference action Thursday evening.
Alice Honnery led Mobile with 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while Allison Michael added 16 of her own on 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range. Daphnee Frieson finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Matika Sterling led the Lady Senators with 15 points.
Mobile out shot AUM 51% to 30% from the floor and 53% (8-of-15) to 24% (5-of-21) from 3-point range.
Mobile hit 6-of-10 from 3-point range in the opening half to build a 42-24 lead at the break. The Lady Rams opened the game by tallying the first seven points and building an 11-1 lead over the first 5:21 on an offensive putback from Frieson. After AUM cut the lead to 11-6 with 13:38 remaining, the Lady Rams went on a 15-4 surge over the next 5:20, capped by a Morgan Melancon 3-ball.
The Lady Rams kept the momentum going with a 12-3 run to open the final period to build a 27-point lead thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Courtney Bayliss.
Mobile (6-12, 4-5) will face Spring Hill College Thursday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 pm.
