Last-Second Shot Sinks Rams In Overtime

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- Auburn University-Montgomery defeated the University of Mobile 57-56 on a last-second jumper in overtime in SSAC men's basketball action Thursday.

Mobile (8-11, 4-5) visits Spring Hill Jan. 26 at 7:30 pm.

Antonio Hester led Mobile with 21 points and 19 rebounds, while Ji Kimbrough finished with 18 points. All other Rams combined for only 17 points.

Marquez Brooks led the Warhawks with 17 points on 6-of-15 shooting.

Neither team shot well in the game, with Mobile hitting 35% from the floor and AUM shooting 36%. Each team hit only five 3-pointers, and neither team was a factor from the free throw line, as Mobile went 5-for-12 in the second half.

The Rams scored the game's first 12 points and held an 18-7 lead with 4:56 left on a Hester dunk. From there, AUM closed the opening half with an 11-4 run to cut the lead to 22-18 at the break.

AUM's first lead of the game came 6:08 into the second half after a 10-1 run gave them a 30-29 lead. The Rams answered right back with a 15-4 run over the next 6:09 to take a 45-34 lead on a Brock Dockery 3-ball. The Rams led 47-39 with 5:37 left, but were shutout the rest of the way as AUM was able to tie it up at the 2:08 mark on a layup from Trey Geter. AUM missed one shot the rest of the way, while Mobile missed three. UMobile's last field goal in the half came at the 7:43 mark.

In overtime, Mobile scored first on a tip-in from Hester and built a 52-48 lead with 3:11 left on a 3-pointer from Kimbrough. The Rams led 56-52 with 55 ticks left, but a Cameron Pridemore 3-pointer brought AUM within one 13 seconds later, and Pridemore won it on a jumper as the clock expired.
