Lady Rams Fall To Rival Badgers 76-71

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team rallied late versus Spring Hill, but fell 71-76 to the rival Badgers.

The win for Spring Hill snapped Mobile's 8-game win streak in the series. Mobile (6-13, 4-6) visits Faulkner University Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 pm.

Alice Honnery led the Lady Rams with a triple-double of 23 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocks, while Daphnee Frieson added 20 points and 7 boards, and Briana Edwards chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

Jackie Higgenbotham led the Lady Badgers with 19 points on 5-of-9 shooting from 3-point range, while April Bradford added 12 points and 12 boards.

The Lady Rams scored first and built a 4-0 lead in the contest, but the Badgers responded by tallying the next 11 points to take a 7-point lead on a bucket from Bradford. For the rest of the half, Spring Hill never led by less than 5 points and took a 45-35 lead into the locker room thanks to a 4-for-6 effort from 3-point range from Higgenbotham.

Spring Hill continued to lead in the second half and took a 61-54 lead with 7:32 remaining on a free throw from Sha Sha Buchanan. Mobile answered with an 11-4 run over the next 4:04 to tie it up at 65-65 on an offensive putback from Frieson. Just 11 seconds later, Higgenbotham drained her only 3-ball of the second half to retake the lead for good. Mobile cut it to 73-71 with 22 seconds left on buckets from Honnery and Lauren Bethly, and got the ball back on a pair of misses from the charity stripe, but a turnover with 10 seconds ended the rally attempt.
