William Carey Tops Mobile Women 64-55

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team fell 55-64 at home to SSAC foe William Carey Saturday afternoon.

Mobile (6-16, 4-9) will visit Belhaven Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 pm.

Briana Edwards led Mobile with 13 points off the bench, while Alice Honnery added 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Daphnee Frieson finished with 8 points and 11 boards.

TeAnna Carter led the Lady Saders with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, while Crystal Tucker added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

William Carey turned the ball over only nine times, while Mobile finished the game with 23 turnovers. The Lady Saders finished 18-of-23 from the charity stripe, compared to 13-of-24 for Mobile.

After William Carey scored the game's first basket, UMobile answered with a 14-4 run to claim a 16-6 lead with 13:18 to play on a pair of free throws from Edwards. The Lady Rams held a 27-20 lead with 3:26 to play in the period, but William Carey used a 12-4 run to take the lead late before a last-second bucket from Sharifa Chandler gave Mobile a 33-32 lead heading into the break.

The Lady Rams scored first in the second half, and maintained the lead until Megan Reynolds scored to give William Carey a 50-48 advantage with 7:03 left to play. Frieson answered right back to tie it up, but Erica Moore scored with 5:57 left to give the visitors the lead for good. Lady Rams were within two with 3:36 left to play, but William Carey ended the game on an 8-1 run.
