UMobile Men's Basketball Picks Up Conference Win

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile men's basketball team defeated William Carey University 59-54 in SSAC action at Pharr Gym Saturday afternoon.
Mobile (11-12, 7-6) visits Belhaven University Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 pm.
Antonio Hester led Mobile with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Christian Salinas and Matthew Turner each added 11 points off the bench.
Jamal Doss led William Carey with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting and added six blocks.
The Rams went 22-of-33 from the charity stripe, compared to a 12-for-19 effort from William Carey.
William Carey used a 14-3 run to take an early 14-8 lead, and they held that lead the rest of the half, though UMobile was able to cut it to one at the break.
The Crusaders led in the second half until Salinas knocked down a 3-pointer to give the Rams a 38-36 lead with 10:42 remaining. Doss answered right back for Carey to tie it up at 38-38, but Salinas struck again, sinking another 3-pointer with 8:54 left to give the Rams the lead for good. William Carey made it a two-point game, 54-56, with 27 seconds left, but Mobile went 3-for-4 from the free throw line the rest of the way to ice the game.
