No. 15 Belhaven Uses 2nd-Half To Take Down Mobile Women

JACKSON, Miss-- The second half doomed the University of Mobile women's basketball team to a 63-79 loss at 15th-ranked Belhaven University in SSAC action Thursday evening.

Mobile (6-17, 4-10) hosts Auburn University-Montgomery Saturday at 2 pm.

Alice Honnery was the lone Lady Ram to score in double figures with 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks, while Daphnee Frieson added 9 points and 11 boards.

Regena Jackson paced four Lady Blazers in double digits with 26 points and 7 assists on 10-of-24 shooting.

In the opening half, the Lady Rams held their own and shot 14-of-23 from the floor to go into the half down only 37-35. In that half, they held Belhaven to 13-of-38 shooting. Over the final 14:22 of the period, neither team led by more than three points and there were seven ties as the teams went back-and-forth before Kiara Johnson hit a pair of free throws to give Belhaven the two-point lead at the break.

Things changed in the final period, as Mobile shot only 37% from the floor, and Belhaven upped its performance to 52% overall. Honnery scored 21 seconds into the final half to tie it up at 37-37, but Belhaven went on a 7-2 spurt to build a 46-39 lead. After Mobile pulled within 48-46 with 14:15 left on Frieson's bucket, Belhaven answered with a 13-4 run to build their first double-digit lead of the day, at 61-50 with 8:52 remaining. Mobile turned the ball over seven times in that stretch. From there, Belhaven led by as many as 20 points.
