Baseball Takes Series Opener From Tornadoes

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team used some 2-out 7th-inning magic to defeat Talladega College 6-3 in the series-opener Friday. The game was called with one out in the top of the 9th due to rain.

Mobile (2-1) hosts the Tornadoes for a noon doubleheader Saturday.

Michael King got the win for the Rams with 8 innings of work, allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits, while fanning 5 and walking none. Gabriel Viso took the loss for Talladega after allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 6.2 innings of work.

Ryan Waltman led the Rams with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, while Ryan Parazine finished 2-3 with 2 runs scored and a pair of doubles.

A pair of Mobile errors handed Talladega the game's first run, and then Bronson Honeycutt made it 2-0 in the 3rd.

The Rams entered the 7th inning down 2-1, and started a rally with John Soutullo on 2nd and 2 outs. Corey Fountain ripped a single down the right field line to tie it up, and Ryne Phillips and Braxton Hamil added 2-out RBI-doubles to cap the 4-run, 5-hit inning.
