Lady Rams Win Two Matches To Open 2012 Season

NEW ORLEANS, La-- The University of Mobile women's tennis team picked up a pair of victories to open the 2012 slate of matches. The Lady Rams defeated non-conference foe LSU-Shreveport 6-2 and then disposed of SSAC foe Loyola 7-1 to cap Saturday's action.

The LSUS match was split at 1-1 after doubles play, but the Lady Rams swept 2-6 singles matches. Marcela Abrantes won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Ambria Phillips shut out her opponent at No. 3.

To beat the Wolfpack, the Lady Rams started with a 3-0 advantage after doubles action thanks to a 9-8 (7-5) win from the No. 1 doubles tandem of Stephanie Tomita and Marcela Abrantes.

Cynthia Summersgill capped singles action with an exciting 6-3, 4-6 (10-5) win at No. 6 singles.

Mobile (2-0) visits Judson College Feb. 15 at 1 pm.
