No. 22 Lady Rams Split In Gold Bracket Play

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team went 1-1 in gold bracket play at the 2012 Gulf Coast Invitational Sunday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. Mobile opened with a 7-2 win over No. 14 Lindsey Wilson, before falling 2-3 to Martin Methodist to cap the day.

Mobile (14-2) will play at the William Carey Invitational this weekend.

In the opener against Lindsey Wilson, Kamaron Strickland limited LWC to 2 runs on 6 hits in a complete-game effort and the Mobile bats busted out for 15 hits in the game.

Brittany Dunson, Hannah Beth Baker, Kaci Pribanic, Jessica Rogers, Korie Fontenot and Emily Vickrey each tallied two hits, while Milagros Lozada finished 3-for-3. Pribanic and Vickrey each drove in two runs.

Lindsey Wilson took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the 3rd, but Mobile batted around and scored 5 runs on 6 hits in the 4th to take command. All five runs in the inning came with two outs, started by Vickrey's RBI-single and capped by Pribanic's 2-run single to center.

Mobile put up 2 more on 5 hits in the 7th.

Alli Hall was the tough-luck loser in the finale, allowing 3 unearned runs on 2 hits in 7 innings of work. She fanned 4 and walked 3. The Mobile bats again got 10 hits, with everyone but Lozada recording a hit, but the Lady Rams left 11 runners on base.

It was the Mobile defense that put Martin Methodist ahead early, as a pair of Lady Ram errors led to 3 unearned runs in the top of the 1st inning.

Mobile tacked on single tallies in the 4th and 5th to try and rally, but they left the bases juiced in each frame.
