Rams Take Series-Opener From Wolfpack

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team defeated Southern States Athletic Conference foe Loyola University 7-3 Friday, in game one of the three-game series.
Mobile (12-13, 6-7) and Loyola (11-16, 1-12) will finish the series with a 1 pm doubleheader Saturday at Jacobs Field.
Micheal King scattered 10 hits in 7 innings of work, allowing only 3 runs and fanning a pair, while Jacob Knowles and Josh Blaylock each worked a scoreless inning in relief to finish it out.
Ryan Parazine finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and a pair of doubles, while Ryan Waltman added three hits, including two doubles and one RBI. Parker Hollinghead went 2-for-4 with one RBI for Mobile.
Brandon Snow and Philip Cazayoux combined to go 4-for-7 with 3 RBI from the top two spots in the Loyola lineup.
Mobile started the scoring with a pair of runs in the 2nd, after Ryne Phillips, Waltman and Parazine started the frame with three-straight doubles. Hollinghead capped the scoring with an infield single in the inning.
The 3rd saw the teams trade runs, with Loyola turning a leadoff hit batsman into a run, and the Rams scoring on Waltman's 2-out RBI-hit.
The Wolfpack pulled closer with single tallies in the 5th and 7th innings, but the Rams pulled away with a single run in the 6th and a 3-spot in the 7th. Parazine started the 7th-inning scoring with a 2-run single and Hollinghead capped it with a 2-out RBI-double.
King and the rest of the Mobile pitchers got plenty of help from the Rams' defense, as Mobile turned four double plays on the day. They ended the 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th innings with double plays to strand Loyola runners on the bases.
