No. 22 Lady Rams Split At WCU Invitational

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The 22nd-ranked University of Mobile softball team split at the William Carey Invitational Friday, beating Oklahoma Baptist 6-0 and falling to 17th-ranked Union 5-1.

Mobile (15-3) hosts Oklahoma Baptist for a doubleheader Sunday at 3 pm.

In the opener, Kamaron Strickland needed only 65 pitches to toss a complete-game three-hit shutout. She walked none and struck out three.

The Mobile bats put up six runs on six hits in support of her. Hannah Beth Baker finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and Jessica Rogers went 1-for-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The game was scoreless through three innings before Mobile plated a pair of runs without the benefit of a hit in the 4th. A walk and error plated one and put a runner at 3rd base, and then Kaci Pribanic hit a sac fly for the 2-0 lead.

Mobile then put the game away with a 3-run 6th inning. Baker and Rogers started the frame with singles, and Korie Fontenot and Ally Scott ended the inning with RBIs.

In the finale, Union's Brooke Thomas limited Mobile to one run on four hits in 7 innings of work, while fanning six. Brittney Kerr took the loss after giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Ally Scott went 2-for-3 at the plate and Kaci Pribanic finished 1-for-3 with 1 RBI for Mobile. Thomas finished 1-for-3 with 2 RBI and Shelby Lamb went 3-for-3 for the Bulldogs.

Union scored first in the 1st inning and led 1-0 through five innings of play, before Mobile finally tied it up with Pribanic's RBI-double in the top of the 6th. From there, the Bulldogs answered right back with a 4-spot in the bottom half of the inning. Thomas' 2-run double and a RBI-triple did the bulk of the damage in the frame.
