Rams Drop Rubber Match At Auburn Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala-- The 16th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery Warhawks took the rubber match from the University of Mobile 6-5 Sunday to take the three-game SSAC baseball series.

Mobile (18-19, 10-11) visits University of New Orleans Tuesday at 6:30 pm.

Forrest Holifield picked up the win for AUM with 3 innings of one-hit shutout relief. Blake Hanson was tagged with the loss for Mobile after giving up 5 earned runs on 10 hits in 7.1 innings of work.

Josh Blaylock went 3-for-4 at the top of the Rams' lineup, Ryne Phillips finished 2-for-4 and Braxton Hamil went 1-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI.

For AUM, Chezz McCann finished 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and a homer.

Mobile went ahead 4-2 early after scoring 2 runs apiece in the 3rd and 4th innings. A pair of AUM errors in the 3rd helped Mobile tally a pair on only one hit, and in the 4th, Hamil launched his 2-run shot to make it 4-2.

McCann answered with a 3-run homer for the Warhawks in the 6th to put AUM up 5-4, but Mobile answered again the 7th. Phillips, Ryan Waltman and Ryan Parazine loaded the bases with nobody out, and Hamil drove in Phillips with a sac fly to tie it up. The Rams stranded a pair in the inning, and AUM scored the game winner in the 8th on McCann's RBI-single.
