Rams Run-Rule SWU; Clinch #7 Seed In Tourney

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team run-ruled Southern Wesleyan 20-5 in seven innings Saturday to clinch the 7th seed at the 2012 SSAC Tournament.
The tournament will be held April 26 - May 1 in Columbus, Ga. The Rams are 25-23 overall and 15-15 in SSAC play.
Mobile scored in each of the first five innings, including four runs or more in four of those frames. Ten different Rams recorded a hit, eight Rams drove in at least one run and ten different players scored a run.
Braxton Hamil went 3-for-4 with five RBI, Josh Blaylock and Ryan Parazine each finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, Justin Beck finished 1-for-3 with three runs scored, Ryan Waltman went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Corey Fountain drove in a pair.
The outburst made a winner out of Blake Hanson, who scattered 11 hits in 4 innings of mound work, while allowing four runs.
Mobile took control of the game with four runs apiece in each of the first two innings.
In the 1st, Waltman, Parazine and Hamil went back-to-back-to-back with RBI doubles to start the scoring.
A one out walk and error started the rally in the 2nd, as Parazine, Hamil and Cameron White drove in runs.
The Rams then capped their scoring outburst with a seven-run 5th inning, with all runs coming with two outs. Seven straight hitters reached with two outs and Hamil recorded two doubles in the frame. He started the inning with a double and then capped the scoring with a three-run double.
The last time Mobile scored 20 runs in a game was 2009, when the Rams put up 26 against Tougaloo College.
