Lady Rams Drop Pool Play Opener

GULF SHORES, Ala-- Six errors proved to be too much for the University of Mobile softball team to overcome on day one of pool play action at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, as the Lady Rams fell 6-1 to Southern Nazarene University.

Mobile (30-18) will face 2nd-ranked Cal State San Marcos Friday at 10 am. Pool play extends through Saturday and the top team from each of the eight pools advances to a double-elimination bracket Monday-Wednesday.

Kaci Crawford got the win for the Crimson Storm by limiting Mobile to one run on two hits in a complete game effort. She struck out 10 and went 5.2 innings before Brittany Dunson doubled to break up the no-hitter. Alli Hall took the loss after giving up six unearned runs on 12 hits in 7 innings of work.

The defensive miscues came right away, as a pair of Mobile errors led to a trio of unearned runs for the Crimson Storm in the 1st. Southern Nazarene tacked on another unearned run in the 2nd and never looked back.

Mobile's sole run of the game came on a 2-out solo home run from Kaci Pribanic in the 7th inning.
