Lady Rams Fall To #2 Cougars At Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala-- The University of Mobile led early against 2nd-ranked Cal State San Marcos on day two of pool play at the 2012 NAIA Softball National Championship, but fell 5-7 in eight innings.
Mobile (30-19) will face Texas Wesleyan Saturday at 12:30 p.m. to wrap up pool play.
Cortney Allen got the win for the Cougars with 6 innings of three-hit relief. She allowed three unearned runs and fanned four. Alli Hall took the loss after giving up two runs on six hits in 4 innings of relief work.
Brittany Dunson finished 2-for-3 with one RBI for Mobile and Jessica Palmer drove in three runs. For the Cougars, Kaitlin McGinley and Alex Miller each drove in two runs.
Mobile struck first on Palmer's two-out, two-run single in the second, but Cal State San Marcos put up a five-spot in the top of the fourth. Alyssa Dronenburg started the inning with a homer and a Mobile error plated the final two runs of the frame.
The Lady Rams answered back with three tying runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Korie Fontenot scored on an error, Dunson produced a sac fly and Palmer came home on an error.
The score stayed that way until the eighth, when the Cougars mounted a two-out rally. Alicia Ingram, McGinley and Dronenburg reached to load the bags and then Miller singled home a pair.
