UMobile Men Battle MidAmerica To 2-2 Double-OT Tie

MOBILE, Ala-- The 12th-ranked University of Mobile men's soccer team battled visiting MidAmerica Nazarene University to a 2-2 double-overtime draw in oppressive heat Monday afternoon.

Mobile (2-0-1) will travel to Thomas University Sept. 8 at 3 pm.

MidAmerica opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Trent Remmich headed a long cross from Tyler Hageman into the far corner for a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, the Rams were awarded a penalty kick after the goalkeeper took out Sam Blackburn, and Naissim Ayadi lofted the ball into the upper corner to knot it at 1-1.

With 15 minutes remaining in the half, Luis Esteves beat a defender to a loose ball to set up Alvaro Pichardo at the top of the 18-yard box, with Pichardo finishing for a 2-1 lead.

As the hit continued to wear down the teams, it looked like the Rams would hold on for the 2-1 win, before an own goal tied it up in the 80th minute. The goal happened when MidAmerica's Aurelien Norest sent a free kick into the box and the ball went off the head of a Ram's defender into the back of the net.

The Pioneers finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots. Xavier Audergon made 7 saves in goal for Mobile, while Oran Tene made 4 saves for MidAmerica Nazarene.
