MOBILE, Ala-- Visiting SCAD Savannah handed the 4th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team its first loss of the season Thursday, topping the Lady Rams 1-0.
Each team managed only three shots on target in the game, and the Lady Rams did nothing with a 13-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Mobile's best shot to score came in the 19th minute, when Christy Lachappelle got into the 18-yard box with only the keeper to beat, but SCAD goalkeeper Ciara Thomas was up to the challenge, knocking away the Lachappelle laser.
With the game still scoreless, the Bees broke through in the 43rd minute on a goal by Meadhbh Deeney. SCAD played the ball into the congested 18-yard box, and it somehow found its way to Deeney, who punched it home.
The Lady Rams out shot SCAD 9-4 in the final 45 minutes, but goalkeeper Sara Hall saved the only two shots that were on frame.
Hall worked the second half for SCAD, with two saves in 45 minutes, while Thomas made one save in the opening period. Gillian McMahon went the distance for Mobile, making a pair of saves.
The Lady Rams (4-1) will next face 2nd-ranked Concordia Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 pm at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.
