Rams Finish Off Four-Game Sweep Of Tougaloo

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile baseball team swept Tougaloo College by 10-2 and 10-5 scores in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Rams won Saturday's opening game 10-2 in 7 innings. Dustin Lee picked up the win by scattering 7 hits over 4.2 innings of relief after starter Michael Clay left with an injury. Lee struck out 3 and walked 1.
Mobile's offense backed the pitchers with 10 runs on 10 hits. Michael Tedesco finished 2-2 with 4 RBI and a 2-run homerun, while Justin Beck finished 2-5 and Hunter Norris finished 2-4. Coby Barber went 2-3 and scored 3 runs for the Rams.
 
Tougaloo turned a walk, steal and single into a 1-0 lead after one, but the Rams answered with two in the 2nd thanks to a wild pitch and sac fly from Derek Bourgeois. After the Bulldogs fought back to tie it with a solo tally in the 3rd, the Rams put the game away with a six-spot in the bottom of the 3rd as 11 batters came to the plate.
 
Nick Laico forced home the first run with a bases-loaded walk, and Cody Sanderson followed with a 2-run double. Beck and Norris added RBI-singles in the frame.
 
John Ladnier got the win in the finale with 2.2 innings of 1-run relief. Ladnier walked none and struck out 3. Jeff Lyons helped finish off the game with 2 innings of perfect relief.
 
The Mobile offense pounded out 14 hits, led by Brad Sheffield's 3-5 effort. Michael Tedesco, Justin Beck and Derek Bourgeois each finished with a pair of hits for the Rams. Cody Barber went 1-2 and drew three walks.
 
Mobile took control right away with two runs in the 1st and four in the 2nd. Sheffield and Hunter Norris drove in a run apiece in the 1st, while Eric Perez and Bourgeois singled home runs in the 2nd, with a Tougaloo error plating two more.
 
The Bulldogs rallied with five runs between the 4th and 6th innings, but the Rams answered with three in the 5th.
 
Tedesco produced a RBI-triple in the 5th and scored on a wild pitch, while Sheffield singled home Beck to cap the inning.
 
Mobile (15-21, 8-14) visits University of West Florida Tuesday, March 30 at 5 pm.
