No. 6 Lady Rams Battle No. 1 Concordia To Double-OT Tie

ORANGE BEACH, Ala-- The 6th-ranked University of Mobile women's soccer team battled top-ranked Concordia University to a 1-1 double-overtime tie at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Friday evening.

Mobile (4-1-1) will battle 4th-ranked Embry-Riddle in the NAIA Game of the Week Saturday at 4:30 pm at the sportsplex.

Alex Blalock put Concordia up 1-0 in the 38th minute, when she took a feed from Alicia Alarcon-Evans in the 18-yard box and had just the keeper to beat.

The game stayed that way deep into the second half, until Christy Lachappelle sent her corner kick to the far post, where Bethan Morgans was waiting to head it home to knot things up.

Mobile had opportunities late to pull out the win, but came up just shy. In the 87th minute, Lachappelle broke away from the Concordia defense, but was taken down illegally outside the box by the goalkeeper, who received a red card. Mobile came up empty on the ensuing free kick.

Then, in the whaning seconds, Jesslyn Fagundes was about to take a rip from deep inside the box, but Becca Long slid in to block the shot.

Fagundes again came close in the 108th minute from inside the 18-yard box, but substitute goalkeeper Nicole Franklin made a nice save to keep it tied.

Gillian McMahon went the distance in goal for Mobile, making four saves.
